How it works
Enter your working days per week, the vacation days in your contract for a full year, and your start date. If your employment ends this year, tick the box and enter the last day. The calculator shows the statutory minimum and your contract days for that calendar year.
For a full year you get the full leave. For a start or an end during the year, one twelfth per full month can apply, depending on the six-month waiting period.
Rules and worked example
Statutory minimum = 24 × working days per week ÷ 6. Part-year leave = annual leave × full months ÷ 12, when the rules for partial leave apply.
For a five-day week, a 30-day contract, starting on 2 July 2026:

Frequently asked questions
How many vacation days does German law guarantee?
24 working days a year for a six-day week (Monday to Saturday). On a five-day week this is 20 days, because the minimum is reduced in proportion to the days you work per week.
How does part-time work change my leave?
The statutory minimum shrinks with the working days per week, so three days a week gives 12 days. The number of hours per day does not matter. Your contract may give more.
What if I start in the middle of the year?
If you started on or before 1 July, you complete the six-month waiting period within the year and get the full annual leave. Starting later gives one twelfth for each full month of that year.
What if I leave during the year?
Leaving in the second half of the year after the waiting period gives the full statutory leave. Leaving in the first half, or before the waiting period ends, gives one twelfth per full month.
How are fractions of days rounded?
A fraction of at least half a day is rounded up to a full day. A smaller fraction is not rounded away.
Does the contract matter?
Yes. Many contracts give 25 to 30 days, and some treat part-years differently. The contract figure here uses the same proportions as the statute, so check your own contract.
